200 Block of W. Broadway in the historic downtown of Sulphur. The old
Schwake Bakery is on the right. The Carter Building, on the
left, has been sold to new owners.
|
200 block W. Broadway continues, showing the historic Carousel
Theater,
once the Ritz. The tiles on the roof are actually made of
metal, not tile, and are identical to the roof of Flower Bluff mansion in
the 300 block of West Muskogee.

The Hassen Building, at the NW corner of W. 2nd and
Broadway. The National Park Service administrative office for
Chickasaw National Recreation Area is located on the 2nd street side.
There is a gym and a karate studio, as well as a collectibles store in the
Muskogee side of the Hassen Building. |

The Fant building, built circa 1906-7, sits at the NE corner
of W 2nd and Muskogee, across 2nd from the Hasssen building.

|
The antique store in the
old 5¢ & 10¢ store on the south side of West Muskogee, 200
block, has gone out of business and the building is again
vacant. |
The 100 block of West Muskogee, south side; here you will find Barbara's
Flowersand The Gettin' Place, antique and collectibles mall, among the shops. |

The First Christian Church is located at the SW corner of 4th and
West Muskogee, across the street from the Historical Museum. It is a
beautiful building in a great location, at the crest of the hill.
The stained glass windows are gorgeous. The church has a very active
membership and provides a valued touch of tradition . |

Flower Bluff mansion, across from the museum on the SE corner of
4th, was built in 1924 by J. D. Ramsey, a prominent businessman who moved
to Sulphur, after building hotels and other businesses in Lawton. He
owned two movie theaters, a lake and amusement concession and was later
mayor of Sulphur. Today it is operated as a vacation rental and is a
great addition to downtown Sulphur's historic district. There is
supposed to be a secret tunnel running under Muskogee from the Bluff to
Grey Gables, where it is rumored that Mr. Ramsey's
"lady-friend" lived. |
