Above,
Gordon Richards, John Spradlin, O. D. Owens, Jr. and Floyd Holbrook work
on the Scout's paper-drive ca. 1950. Photos donated by Floyd
Spradlin. |
The
museum recently acquired some new photos of Sulphur Scouts in the early
1950's. Shown above are Gordon Richards, Floyd Holbrook and John
Spradlin celebrating Floyd being a delegate to the World Scout Jamboree in
Valley Forge, PA, 1950.

The door on your right, down the hall, is the Scouting Room.
Items of interest there, include memorabilia from the Sulphur Air
Scouts
Squadron #7080,
in existence from
1945-63. The troop members learned about aeronautics,
including engines, weather, radio and flying. The bomb casing was
won by the troop at Carson AFB in 1948 at an Air Scout Encampment.
|
Also won by Troop 7080 was this wooden
propeller, which would have been used on a PT-20 Trainer during
WWII. They were awarded it at Randolph Field, TX, June 12, 1947 for
being the best troop at the encampment. |
|
|
 |
The 7080
squadron was lucky to have as troop leader a former civilian ground-school
instructor for the US Navy during WWII, Foy Stout . He is
shown top left in the adjoining photo at Enid, Oklahoma's Vance AFB,
8/8/1946, along with Air Scout Ace Marshall Montgomery, Jr. (bottom
left.) The members of Troop 7080 had a reunion at Chickasaw National
Recreation Area in 1990, which Mr. Stout attended.

|
|

Also in the Scout room is two panels of rosters of BSA Troop 62, Sulphur,
OK. The rosters were kept from 1927-1967 by legendary local scout
leader, Marshall Montgomery, Sr. Maybe your granddad's, dad's or
your own name is listed there.
|
A unique part of the scouting display is a
collection of Norman Rockwell illustrated calendars put out by C. M. May's
lumber yards for a nearly 50-year period. All of the calendars have
a Scouting theme. |
